In relation, it is subject to existing expansion today. For example, gay restaurants, gay barbers, gay clothing shops, and gay cafes are amongst are amongst a host of facilities geared toward the gay community in London.
Soho and the gay atmosphere thriving in the city of London
Although the gay community is relatively sporadic these days, with the whole of London accommodating the rainbow, the home of the gay man, perhaps his camp Mecca, is Soho. Undoubtedly one of the most vibrant areas of London, its has been at the heart of London’s nightlife as far as back as the 19th century.
This gay man’s paradise is easily accessible from Oxford Circus, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Rd train stations. In the midst of a maze of streets, are a number of popular establishments ranging from the sublime to the relaxed, and ‘Comptons of Soho’ poses little exception. The bar has been around for nearly two decades and is certainly a veteran as far as Soho bars go.
About the gay community in general
Furthermore, the ‘out and proud’ gay atmosphere that is thriving in London at the minute is marked with the annual Pride Festival, held in June, with a showcase of around 300 exhibitions, film screenings, sporting events, concerts, theatre, comedy and cabaret performances. Perhaps a positive boost for the gay scene in London, Colm Howard Lloyd, a director of Pride London, has called for greater encouragement from travel companies, for gay customers who may be looking to travel to the UK for the famous festival. This is definitely an indication that the gay community in general, is expanding, as London becomes the place to be for all that is camp. He has claimed that ‘travel agents and tour operators should show their support, rather than simply exploiting the pink pound’. Howard Lloyd also goes on to say ‘We know how valuable the pink pound is and we are really cynical about anyone taking advantage of it, furthermore that’s why the organizations that actively work with the gay community in general are the ones we trust’.
The clear expansion of the gay community as a whole has reached global heights, although the gay community in London is certain one of the most tight- knit.
Discrimination against the gay community
Despite a number of historic advancements in terms of the expansion of the gay community and the dispersal of a lot of discriminative feeling, a young Lesbian, online gamer has suffered at the hands of ignorance. The avid fan of XBOX live gaming, has found herself banned from the network because she had been subject to a degree of homophobic abuse at the hands if mindless idiots. Thus far Microsoft had merely responded by saying that her profile had stated her sexual orientation which they deemed to be sexual content, something which is immediately banned. However in our opinion, Microsoft had simply found it easier to ban one single customer as opposed to a large handful, who of course equate to greater gaming fees.
