Stockings and Suspenders supported by belts were first introduced in the 1940's and have gone through many evolutionary phases since that time. At first they were impractical and uncomfortable to wear and many failed to prevent the much maligned Norah Batty look.

At first the clasps failed to hold the stocking securely and then when the purpose was perfected it was at the expense of comfort and the materials often produced an allergic reaction in the wearer, happily those days are far behind us and most manufacturers have conquered these design imperfections. So with this rather shaky start why today are stockings and suspenders sexy? Women do feel sexier wearing them. Is it the theatrical drama of actually getting them fastened and in place or the fact that you can feel them flex against your thighs as you walk? Or simply that the delight of wearing of stockings is reserved for special occasions when an extra effort is required when ladies put on their glad rags?

It could be any of any reason mentioned but why do men find suspenders sexy when worn by woman; we know this to be the case as you never see woolly tights worn in glamour magazines. It could be that stockings and suspenders tell a man that the lady in question has made a special effort just for him and leads the chap to feel most flattered or could it be that a glimpses of stocking top give a subliminal message and the prospect of an ensuing seduction.

Whatever the real reason is you will notice that all women's costumes for fancy dress. includes them. There is however another more humours theory that dates back to the 1960's put to me by a gentleman who was a teenager at that time, bearing in mind it was a time of free love, the stocking tops were known as the "chuckle band" any ideas of why? Simple really, if they got past that they were laughing! So ladies and gentlemen remember that stockings and suspenders are sexy whether you are the wearer or the observer!
