Hypnosis is a state of relaxation; it is normal and natural, and is a proven therapeutic aid. Like anything which is new or different to us, people have a lot of questions about hypnosis when they are first contemplating its use. I would like in this short article, to dispel some of the myths which are sometimes associated with hypnosis.

People often question whether they can be made to do anything against their will, and the answer is no, you could not be made to do or say anything which you do not wish to say or do. Hypnotherapy is safe, natural and effective and this is why it is so popular as a therapeutic aid. Another worry which people may have is whether they will definitely come out of hypnosis. There is no need to fear; you will definitely come out of hypnosis. Just as you go to sleep and wake up naturally, without knowing how it happens, you pass into and out of hypnosis in a similar way. It is impossible to be left in a terminal state of hypnosis! If you were listening to a hypnosis download at home and for whatever reason it stopped playing mid way through, you would either fall asleep or return to normal waking consciousness in your own time, quickly, easily and naturally.

In hypnosis, you remain in control at all times and you can come out of hypnosis at any time should you wish to do so. If there is a fire, for instance, you will be aware of it and respond appropriately. If your baby cries you will hear him or her, and respond appropriately. When you are in hypnosis you are relaxed, but also aware. It feels like a mental massage, and is thoroughly enjoyable.

You may wonder if it's safe to drive after using a self hypnosis recording or having a hypnotherapy session. Again, the answer is yes, you can drive, just as you can drive after a meditation class, or a yoga class, or after having a cat nap. You should not, however, drive AT THE SAME TIME as listening to a hypnosis recording.

There are many therapeutic benefits experienced as a result of hypnosis. As I mentioned before, hypnosis is a state of relaxation and you pass through hypnosis as you drift off to sleep. In learning to use hypnosis, which you can do simply by listening to a hypnosis download, you learn how to relax whenever you wish to or whenever you feel that you need to. As you relax in hypnosis your brain waves change from the beta waves of normal waking consciousness to the alpha-theta brain wave pattern of sleep and dreaming.

When you dream each night, when you are in the REM state, your brain performs the vital task of conflict resolution. Whilst dreaming, unconscious conflicts are resolved and settled. You may think that you never dream, but be assured that you do, as it is essential to human equilibrium. When in hypnosis, as your brain waves alter to this similar pattern, you access your subconscious mind and your creative mind comes to the fore. Once again the task of conflict resolution is enabled and it becomes possible to change habitual thoughts, beliefs and behaviors. Hypnosis is this natural and normal state, and it allows for easy therapeutic intervention.
