Not only is homemade bread delicious and full of nutrients you won`t find in store bought stuff, it`s also a great way to save money. Flour tends to be pretty cheap and if you stick to a basic bread recipe, you don’t need many other ingredients, making this the perfect way to keep your food budget down. And there`s a bread type for everyone!

Going for Variety

Sick of plain white bread? There`s no reason you need to stick to that! If you make your own bread, it`s super simple to change the ingredients up and turn out some pretty fantastic breads. How about making your own cinnamon loaf with raisins? Or maybe you`d like a cracked wheat loaf or homemade garlic loaf with butter and garlic incorporated. There are so many recipes for breads that you never have to make the same one twice. Plus, once you`ve gotten used to the process, you can easily make your own experiments and see what happens.

Bread for People with No Time

For many, there simply isn`t enough time for all that kneading and waiting for bread to rise. Not to worry, there are bread recipes that let you skip all that and go straight to baking. The results are great, but in a fraction of the time. And for those who seriously have 10-15 minutes during meal prep, there`s always biscuits. Don`t be fooled into thinking that you have to make those plain Jane baking powder biscuits all the time, you can turn them into gourmet food by adding cheese, herbs or other fun ingredients and they are ready to go just a few minutes after you start mixing.

Automatic Bread

Even investing in a bread machine can be a good way to save money. In the long run, you`ll spend less and the machine does everything for you . . . just dump in the ingredients. In fact, you can even set it to have warm bread ready for breakfast when you get up!

Make sure you experiment with different recipes if you do get a bread machine, though. Too many people stick to the first recipe that comes with the machine and never get to truly enjoy the experience of artisan style bread without the heavy work.

Making your own bread can be very rewarding, in more ways than one. Your entire family will enjoy the taste of homemade bread and you`ll enjoy the fact that it doesn`t cost much at all.
