Imagine yourself sitting in your car and wanting to drive from your home in the suburbs to downtown Chicago. You know your destination address, but what about the map to get there? I know you are thinking, "Ahh!! I HAVE A GPS!" That's good news then! We're all set for our journey now. What if you have just the street name for your destination? That's not enough information for the GPS to take you there. So you key in the building number and now the GPS has the complete address.

Let's compare the GPS to your subconscious mind. As we just saw, a GPS needs the exact address of the destination. That means a home number, street name, city, and zip code. That’s the only way you'll get to the desired location. Similarly, your subconscious needs the complete address so it can understand to achieve your goals. But what is a "complete address" to your subconscious mind? Is visualization of your end goal enough? Let us explore this using a little story.

Joe is a diligent young man, aspiring to get promoted from an ordinary staff member to manager. So what does he do? In addition to the physical effort that Joe invests for his promotion, he sets his mental self, which is "THE SUBCONSCIOUS" for the promotion. How does he do that? He visualizes his promotion. In fact, he takes it to the next step of mentally "living" as a manager. Joe takes a neat little card and prints a business card saying: "Joe Smith, Manager"

He also imagines everyone at work treats him like he is already a manager. He has already obtained a promotion in his mind. He tries this for a long time but it does not produce the results he wants. What is he missing? He gave a part of the "address" (i.e., visualization) to the subconscious mind. But because he has failed so many times in getting promoted, he is sad or upset whenever he looks at his business card. The subconscious makes his sad or unhappy feeling about the promotion a reality and keeps him in the state of not being promoted. It is because the subconscious thinks that's what Joe wants as he does not have a good feeling or faith in his promotion.

Instead, Joe changes that feeling. He flips a mental switch and starts "feeling" good when he visualizes himself as a manager. He starts feeling the feeling he would feel when he is promoted to manager. And it works! Joe gets the promotion.

You get the drift? So, "FEELING" is the missing piece of the address.

Visualization + Wrong Feeling = Wrong Results.

Visualization + Right Feeling = Right Results!

SUBCONSCIOUS NEEDS: VISUALIZATION + THE RIGHT FEELING

Always visualize as if your goal has already happened and feel good about your goal. Your subconscious understands powerful suggestions and does not judge. Has your GPS ever asked, "Hey, do you really want to go there?" It's the same thing with your subconscious mind. If you are feeling sad, it won't stop and correct you. It just assumes you want to be sad and get you there by making sure you don’t become a manager!

You are probably thinking, "It is easy for you to say, 'have the right feeling.' How can I have the right feeling when I am feeling sad?" So how do you generate the right feeling when you have failed so many times and are really feeling bad about it? Let’s find out in future articles.
