Some ideas:

1 - Visual treatment.

If you wish to create an interesting quality visual feel to your project, the use of colour is important. A solid colour for the floor is usually a good start. You can add borders of a different colour to the floor, or you can create a pattern by alternating different colours. This kind of visual treatment can create a more interesting floor.

2 -Same Colour tiles.

When using the same colour for the floors and walls. One trick to create a slight differentation would be to to choose a different size tile for the walls or lay the wall tiles diagonally.

3 - Grout.

Another idea is to choose a grout colour that contrasts with the wall or floor colour. For example, if you are using white tiles, use a different colour grout for contrast. Sealers will protect and preserve grout colours. Apply sealers to grout lines in areas of heavy wear. When buying grout and sealer especially if you need a lot you usually get a better deal from more trade orientated places such as Wickes or DIY Tools .

4 - The decorative touch.

If your favorite colour is blue, add a few blue decorative tiles to the walls or use textures , shapes and borders to give it some visual interest. Use rows in the walls, where you can add some of the blue tiles placed diagonally.

5 - Contemporary style.

For a contemporary look and style, with a modern feel here's a few ideas. Consider using light, bold, colours with shapes or graphics against plain backgrounds. Contemporary style fixtures and accessories will further provide a modern-looking result.

6 - A romantic look.

If you are trying to achieve a romantic or Victorian look and feel, the use of floral tiles in soft colours like pink, light green or light blue reflect the colours of the day. The addition of a hand painted sink or a wooden floor would complete the look.

7 - A Mediterranean look.

For a Mediterranean look and feel. Try mixing terra-cotta tiles with Hand-painted or Mexican tiles for the floors. For the countertop perhaps mix plain coloured tiles with hand-painted decorative tiles.Think about adding plants to the room, in particular humidity loving ones such as palms, alloa vera and rubber plants.

8 - Colour.

In trying to achieve a good overall effect, colour is important, colour affects your mood, creates dark and light and even effects how warm a room is.. Warm, fun like colours are peach or yellow. They give a cozier feel and they go well with a more country looking decor. If you use neutral colours like beiges or whites, they will make the room look larger. These will reflect light and they are always in style. Blue, green and violet are viewed as serene or cool colours. Black or red add drama, absorb light and will make the room appear smaller. In rooms with plenty of windows and natural lighting, consider using darker tiles to offset the ambient lighting. You can also work in colours you want through the use of accent tiles and accessories.

9 - The Plain White Tile.

Some of the nicest bathrooms I have seen have utilised the humble plain white tile to great effect. Using bold accessories and fittings the plain white backdrop rarely fails to complement well designed and placed fixtures and accessories.

10 - Pattern and Shapes.

You can have a little fun as you select the styles, colours, patterns, textures and sizes for your project. Think what will create the right sort of atmosphere you want to have in that space. A whole variety of ways to achieve this are available and are the corner stone for any bathroom design. The use of candles and bathroom furniture can also be used to create or highlight interesting features, patterns and shapes.

    • Materials.

Ceramic tiles are often used because of their durability, they are none porous - resistant to water - and are safer to walk on when wet. They are also easy to clean. Consider using a tile that has a slip-resistant surface for safety. If you use unglazed tiles, they will need to be washed frequently because they absorb stains quite easily. They come in a whole variety of shapes and sizes to suit you.

    • Tile Cutting

Ceramic tiles are a real pain to cut especially when your bathroom isn't square and you have lots of angles. As a rule to cut tiles in a straight line is easy and the cheapest of tools when used correctly will do the job for you. Cutting out and around corners is a real pain, the ways it can be done include using a diamond tipped tile cutter, these do the job but can be messy (they use water to cool the cutting blade) and can leave the tile looking a little rough along the cut side. The other thing to consider is incorporating smaller mosaic tiles around the edge as a border.

I hope these pointers help in your choice of bathroom tile ideas.
