Wide palm-lined avenues, clean white sandy beaches and stunning detached villas – this is Cabo Roig an impressive resort on the Southern Costa Blanca, Spain. Located on the Orihuela Costa stretch of the Costa Blanca coastline, Cabo Roig is a popular destination for holidaymakers from all over Europe and in fact all over the world. The Spanish themselves love the resort and many head there, particularly from the city of Murcia, during the hot summer months, especially during August when many of the Spanish people take the whole month off for their annual vacation. Cabo Roig is usually very busy from May to November and fairly quiet during the winter months.
Cabo Roig is well known for its amazing detached villas. On the beach-side of the busy N332 coastal road there are a large number of detached villas with beautifully landscaped gardens, many with their own private swimming pools. Some of the finest villas are those along the spectacular cliff walk to La Zenia, they all have fabulous views across to the resort of La Manga. Whilst enjoying this walk, you will really have the feel for "how the other half live" and it is fun to dream about perhaps one day owning one of these “millionaires” villas, but for most it remains just that - a dream. The prominent 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig grew is now incorporated in the famous restaurant which overlooks the fine marina.
Cabo Roig has 2 excellent “white flag” beaches (Cala Capitan and Cala Caleta) and is also within easy reach of other fine beaches at La Zenia and Campoamor. If you are staying in Cabo Roig you will find it worthwhile to take a trip down to the fantastic beaches of the Mar Menor (Lesser Sea), try to head for Lo Pagan which has a superb beach and is also the site of the famous healing mud baths (La Puntica), where thousands visit each year to enjoy the therapeutic effects of the mud.
The wonderful cliff-top walk from La Zenia to Cabo Roig is a great way to spend a morning or perhaps an evening whilst visiting the area. This fine walk offers some stunning views of the coastline and on a clear day it is possible to see the resort of La Manga glistening in the distance. During a hot summer’s evening you will also enjoy the cooling sea breeze which makes a pleasant change from the burning sun of a balmy August day.
Cabo Roig has a wonderful climate and the sun shines on over three hundred days per year, the mean temperature being about 20 degrees C. You can usually expect to see little rainfall between May and October and the days are generally long and sunny. When rain does fall it is usually during the winter months, November and February being the most common months for rain. December and January are usually sunny and pleasant but with cold nights.
For your evening entertainment you will probably want to head for the popular Cabo Roig “strip” (also known as Aguamarina Strip), here you will find a mind-boggling variety of bars and restaurants offering plenty of entertainment and culinary delights. There are also an increasing number of shops opening up although the strip is still missing a big supermarket.
