Once you have the go ahead from your doctor and have informed the family about your weight loss plan, you have only to commit to the goals you have set for yourself.

Though you commit yourself, you need to have external support for the weight loss plan to be a success. This is important because you should not find yourself in a regular situation of being a part of events that involve high calorie food and no food that is suitable to you. If you want to maintain the new habits you are trying to form, you need to fill up on the healthy food and keep little space for the high calorie food.

Commit yourself

Now that you have put up a goal on the basis of your height, age and ideal weight, get real. If you keep your goal too high, you will doom your efforts from the start. The goal will seem so far away that you will find it difficult to sustain the weight loss plan for long. Instead, keep a fortnightly goal. Utilise the same weighing scale throughout the effort. Aim at losing half a kilo or one kilo each fortnight. Now open a worksheet in which you will log your daily exercise, meditation time and food taken. Highlight the good days with a certain colour and the days when you have been over indulgent differently. Now, analyse the situations that led to over indulgence. Was it a party in which you got carried away by the group and forgot about your weight loss plan? Maybe you were feeling famished and did not think twice before you consumed foodstuffs you were not supposed to. Make a plan that you feel confident about to manage these occurrences. If you feel that an occasional party allows for indulgences then make up for it for the coming seven days.

Communicate

You probably wonder if this is really important for your weight loss plan. The thing is, once your family knows that you have a personal goal to achieve and require their help, they will pitch in to ensure that you do not slip up. If sweets are your weakness, the family knows better than to purchase them randomly. Even if they do, they will store the item appropriately and only allow a small portion to be available to you. If you regularly visit friends and land up eating at their place, it is a good idea to let them in on your diet so that they can arrange to keep low fat choices available as well. The support of your family will help you to stay with your commitment.

Medical opinion

Your choice of a weight loss plan must be medically certified. If you opt for a low carbohydrate or a low protein diet, you must understand the ramifications of what you are doing. Find out from the doctor the period of time for which it is safe to sustain this type of weight loss plan after which you will return to a more sustainable diet with a sensible food mix. The doctor will give you an opinion based on your age and health. A few physical tests may be required before you are able to start.
