What if you didn’t remember what you just read, that would suck huh? Well its true in most cases if you don’t apply it, write it or affirm it. Like a good recipe, you must follow the instruction once, and forever never more remember it like white on rice. Isn't that kind of scary to think that after all that glorious reading, everything you just read has been a complete waste of your time unless you actually did something with it? If you were ever in an institution that educates people you would be used to tests and exams. Which in an effort to help you retain all that information, it might have been a challenging test, but look how much you remember? Otherwise no matter how much you study the material, you will never remember it all, and it’s a waste of your time. So what are you doing about it?
I realized that no matter how much I studied, no matter how many books I've read, if I didn't remember to use the principles and ideas from them they would disappear forever. You can study all day, you can read all day, but if you don’t write about it or speak of it, or apply those same things that you are learning about. It’ll be gone forever, like a shadow in the night – and you will be re-reading the material again. It has happened to me time after time and I’m sick of it. So I’m letting everyone out there know, that you must be resourceful and do what it takes to remember what you are reading. How will you lead people, how will you know what quotes to use, what to say? How do you remember how to cook so well? Oh its because you read the recipe, and then apply it in the kitchen. Shocking result isn’t it?
Like telling a good bed time story to your children at night, you will remember it forever and ever. Or when you were a kid, you remembered those stories you were told because your imagination could fly and soar, and the next morning you would wake up and play out those characters with your friends. You would remember the fantasy and the fun.
What is so different about it now? All the books you read, are garbage with text unless you can write about them, jot down some notes somewhere or apply their principles, soon you will forget everything you know about that read. It’s true, isn’t it? haven't you ever read a book and then weeks later or months or years later, wanted to recall, but couldn't remember? Reading is only as good as applying what you read – like a good recipe. If you can't apply what you've read in those books, then the knowledge is almost useless. Speak it out loud, affirm that you have learned something new and use it. Otherwise it is a waste of your time.
So start now, make your move, take action, be the voice, write about it. Never forget it. So that when generations come and go, you'll have stories to tell and be more than a quiet follower. You will be a book of knowledge with interesting facts and stories that you can share with the world. Am I right, yes or yes?
