By self-hypnosis we mean an act when a person hypnotizes himself. Self-hypnosis occurs without any suggestions from other people, subject of self hypnosis has to put himself into trance without any help.

When individual getting hypnotized is put into a trance by listening to hypnosis tapes, we are talking about indirect hypnosis, not self hypnosis. Self-hypnosis often occurs spontaneously, but controlling its progress is very difficult and requires a lot of practice. It is almost as difficult as controlling your own dreams.

When do you experience self-hypnosis intrinsically? It is a common issue between drivers and plane pilots, that spend a lot of time on the road, or in the air. It is often preceded by the so-called "falling asleep behind the wheel", but this is not the rule. If you often drive for a long time without any rest, you may have noticed, that you drive "on autopilot", as one of my colleagues calls it. This state is characterized by the fact that after leaving it, we have no recollection as to what happened on the road, few minutes ago, we lose our sense of passing time and we do not feel boredom often experienced during long rides. Driving in such a state is dangerous, because you can fall asleep easily - however, aside from that driver fully controls what is happening on the road.

Situations in which self-hypnosis occurs spontaneously, helps us to identify actions we have to take in order to induce it. Therefore you should combine, monotonous stimuli with staring at one object, to create visual fixation. You can spot clear similarities between self-hypnosis and meditation. Personally, I think there is a very thin line between the two states, so if you often meditate, there are good chances you know how to achieve deep trance, with self-hypnosis.

Clearly, Self-hypnosis isn't as easy and straight forward topic as many may think, it requires a lot of self-discipline and determination in order to take full control of your mind and not fall asleep. However I highly recommend, trying it out, who knows maybe you are capable of achieving deep trance easily.
