Did you know that kitty litter is mined? I did not know this.Bentonite clay is strip-mined to make cat litter, which is not only destructive to the natural environment, but ridiculous. We strip mine for cat poop? Bentonite can absorb up to 7-10 times its own weight. Kitty litter is sterile, but sand and dirt are not. Natural means that beneficial probiotics live in the dirt. Kitty Litter is fine to break down heavy soil.

Clumping litters in particular can be harmful to your pet because, once ingested, the litter expands and absorbs moisture in the intestines, causing blockages and dehydration, and preventing the absorption of nutrients. Shockingly, the article contains no cautions against the use of clumping litters, even though the description of one of the main ingredients in such products should be enough to alarm any thinking person. Clumping litter is not suitable for use with kittens as they may eat the litter. Clumping clay litter is great, as it is easy to scoop and makes daily box cleaning less of a chore, but the same substance ? Kitty litter is good stuff for cats not dogs. Kitty litter is essentially dried clay chunks in a bag. Most kitty littler does have stuff in it that will kill your fish in seconds, Kitty Litter is made for soaking up cat pee and poo. This is the one and only reason people buy kitty litter. Cats however can shed the toxo eggs in their feces which can be a risk for particular animals, people with suppressed immune systems or pregnant women (can cause birth defects) to name a few. I haven't seen anything that indicates this is an issue with the pee, just the feces but I'm not an expert.

Cats that are both indoors and outdoors often prefer to use the outdoors if given the chance but make sure they have a litter box to use when indoors. The key is to start litter box training when the cat is still just a kitten. Cat feces also pose risk to pregnant women and small children, so avoidance is sometimes necessary. Tools have been created, such as slotted scoops, to assist in the job, but they are often difficult to use, or require great exposure to the fecal matter. Cats stop using the cat litter box for a number of reasons. Once you discover the reason why and correct it, you may need to re-train your cat to use her box again.Cats are very fastidious animals, and spend time each day making sure their coat, feet and face are clean. One can assume that they would like a clean place to eliminate. Cat poop can contain a number of parasites that are hard to kill and toxic to other wildlife.
