Safety should be of paramount importance for all drivers as accidents are not pleasant. Apart from the obvious repercussions of injury or even worse, the damage that your car could cause or receive could end up costing you a considerable amount of money.

Many of us budget so that we know what is coming in and out of our accounts each month. Our cars normally form a large part of an income and expenditure calculation with petrol, insurance, tax and MOTs all adding up. The last thing you want in these economic times is to incur extra costs that are going to put a strain on your finances. Minor bumps and scratches will be relatively cheap to fix but what if something major needs repairing?

Repair costs for cars can vary depending on what work needs to be done and what the make and model of the car is. Brand new cars are usually covered by manufacturer warranties which tend to cover some, but not all eventualities.

Driving recklessly will significantly increase the risk of an accident occurring plus it puts you in danger of breaking the law and you can cause unnecessary wear and tear on your car. It may be tempting to rev the engine but over revving and harsh braking will cause damage to the engine and brakes which are expensive to repair. This kind of behaviour can have a knock on effect when it come to your car’s MOT test. If your car fails its MOT, you will have to pay to put the problems right before it’s legally allowed back on the road.

Driving to and from work can be frustrating as there is normally a considerable amount of traffic, stopping and starting in rush hour in understandable as you just want to get to your destination but you should try to maintain a steady speed as this will put less unnecessary strain on your car.

One thing that many may not consider is that cleaning your car out and getting rid of rubbish or junk sat in your car will actually help your car’s mileage improve. All the junk and unnecessary cargo will add weight to the car, meaning that it won’t be as fast and will use up more petrol in order to get up to speed. So apart from looking after the appearance of your car, giving it a clean out can help lower your fuel consumption too.

Bob Brightside writes on a variety of motoring subject like Car Loans, Yes Car Credit and Car finance.
