Everyday there are people starting to consume some kind of fish oil, although this should come as no surprise as cod liver oil has been popular for decades. These days though it is the oily fishes such as salmon which researches are claiming you need to consume the oil from. So lets see if we can understand exactly what does fish oil do and why it is beneficial for you.

Unbelievably both the holistic and scientific community are saying exactly the same thing on this subject in that having fish oil in your diet is advantageous for your body: in the first place the praise for the oil was down to the fact of how it assisted people who had been suffering from joint pain and conditions like arthritis. Such good results were coming about for these people because of the fact that the properties contained within the oil are brilliant at fighting inflammation which of course creates these kind of conditions.

Of course as time went by and farther research was done it became evident to the scientists that inflammation not only caused joint pain but was also behind some serious health problems, these problems were related with conditions such as strokes and plaque in the blood which can lead to heart problems. Research discovered that properties within the omega 3 found in oily fish was very effective against these conditions.

Of course omega3 is not restricted to only fish but fish have within them EPA and DHA and it is these that help combat inflammation. That is not where it ends though as it has been discovered that DHA can help your body in other ways as well.

It is now known that just over half of your brain is made up of fats, and what is now known is that of the amount of fat your brain is made of, half of that again is made up of the DHA fats. And it has been established that children taking omega 3 supplements can improve learning and have fewer troubles with conditions such as ADD. As well as that it is thought to be very beneficial against other things related to the brain along the lines of Alzheimer's, depression and mood swings and these are just the tip of the iceberg. Being realistic a majority of people will not suffer from these conditions, but even so by supplementing with DHA omega3 they find themselves with better memory, focus and concentration.

Wait, there is more, this wonderful food source is associated with other health benefits as well, and although it is by no means a super cure, it sure does help with some conditions. It is considered (although further research is needed) that it can help fight against some particular cancers. It is also believed that it contains properties which can help with certain types of skin conditions and many other conditions that we have to put up with as humans.

In fact There is more than I can cover here however I do go into more detail of exactly what does fish oil do at my website which I recommend you take a look at because it explains what you need to look for in a product to make sure it is actually doing you any good.
