You must be trained before becoming a trainer. You must join a fitness class so you can study the instruction techniques while you workout to a body fit for the job. It is people you are going to handle in a fitness class. Therefore, you must be rid of all traces of shyness and become amiable to everyone wishing to stay fit.

Reading a few science books would also help in your preparation. You should give time to studying basic human anatomy, especially those that deal with the bones and muscles. If you can explain the workouts benefit to the body, your class will certainly make an effort in it. Even a small dose of psychology is advantageous. Learning both does not make you a doctor but you can become effective enough in motivating your class to strive harder during the workout session.

If it is possible, train in more than one field. Having more than one expertise in a field of fitness training gives an edge over the others. Of course, you do not need to learn all. You just have to single out those that are more holistic in their approach. Being certified in your fields of expertise can give you even greater advantages. You should also be a certified to apply CPR, another badge of merit. Any gym loves to have a CPR-certified trainer in its list to assure its clients of safety while they workout. When you are ripe enough for the job, then look for somewhere, you could send your application letter. Try putting yourself as their substitute instructor, if the gym management has enough fitness instructors at work. That should give you an opportunity soon to show your skills.
