No one ever found the world exactly as they would like it. You will be sure to have burdens given to you that belong to other people, unless you duck out of it yourself; but don't grumble. If the work needs doing and you can do it, never mind about the other one who ought to have done it and didn't; do it yourself. The workers who fill in the gaps, and help to smooth away the rough spots, and finish up the jobs that others leave undone - they are the true peacemakers, and worth more than an army of grumblers.
In fact, if you dislike your position, here is a bit of advice. Never complain to anyone, especially to your employer. Perform the job as it was never done before, fill it to overflowing. Make yourself more competent for it by taking classes and studying about it. Show your boss that you are worthy of better things and a more prominent position. Express yourself and let your employers know that you desire a promotion as often as you can. Show me a person who whistles while they work! They will do more in the same time given to a grumbler and do it better. They will live longer and happier lives. People hardly ever give into fatigue when they whistle or sing while they are at work. It is a very good sign, when young women are heard singing while washing dishes or sewing clothes. When a broom is seen moving rhythmically and the duster is swaying in time to some good ole music. We can usually rest assured that the dishes will shine more brightly, and that the sweeping and dusting has been completed more satisfactory simply because they were preformed to the accompaniment of a song. A father often smiles himself when he hears his girl singing while going about her work. Amazingly enough, quite often even brothers and sisters, without realizing it, catch the spirit of the initial cheerful worker. This certainly has been known to bring a smile to the heart of a tired mom at the end of a long day, that’s for sure! A spirit of song, if not the singing itself, is pure delight.
Some people seem to move through life as if a band of music moves down the street, performing musical pleasures on every side, through the air, to every one far and near who can listen. Then there are others who fill the air with harsh clanging and ringing. Many people go through life carrying their tongue, their temper, their whole disposition so that wherever they go, others dread them. However, the healthier, wiser person actually seems to fill the air with their presence and sweetness.
Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter -- to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water.
