Whatever this season is, I was tired of the dancing, judges, and contestants. I just couldn't stand to watch Chloris Leachman. Nevertheless then along came Gilles Poet, Lil Kim, Ty Philologue, Melissa Rycroft, The Woz, Julianne's sweetheart, Diet Wicks, Denise Richards, Shawn Johnson, and some others that certainly didn't excite me.
But not all was lost - someone did hold my attention. I couldn't wait to see the outstanding dancing of Frenchman Gilles Marini. I discovered Gilles when I saw Sex and the City where he stood out among a cast of talented actors and actresses. And as a celebrity dancer on Dancing with the Stars Gilles does not let fans of his screen work down. Gilles raises the temperature on the dance floor. One of Dancing's judges, Carrie Ann Inaba, let slip what a lot of us were thinking - Carole, Gilles Marini's wife, one was lucky lady.
Denise Richards was disappointing. She lacked talent and personality, two very important attributes for anyone appearing on the program. The Woz had the personality, but no talent. While Chuck Wicks put in 110% and stayed on the show week after week. I was not interested in watching Lil' Kim, until I saw what an amazing dancer she turned out to be. Derek Huff showed what expert choreography and showmanship can bring to the dance floor with his amazing routines. They proved to be a powerful duo when they showed that they had chemistry along with their talent. How stunning was it then that Lil' Kim was voted off ahead of several less talented dance partners.
As it stands right now the last couples in competition are Melissa and Tony, Ty and Chelsie, Gilles and Cheryl, Shawn and Mark. When Jewel fractured the tibia in both her legs five days before the season premiere, that is when Melissa stepped up and took her place. Melissa didn't struggle too much for someone with such little prep time - she has training in ballet. Her performances have been close to perfection, earning her perfect scores in the last show. Even if you get a perfect score from the judges, you still risk being voted off the show. (Take a look at Sabrina Bryan, she was sent packing with her dancing partner Mark Ballas in the 5th season despite scoring the highest first week score and later getting the first 30 out of 30 score.) Rodeo champion Ty Murry has worked on his dancing the most and it shows. He happens to be very adorable too. Ty's experience riding bulls and guiding horses doesn't translate directly to the dance floor and provided a big cache of voting fans who normally wouldn't watch Dancing with the Stars. Shawn Johnson's Olympic performance was so endearing, and her dancing is the same. Finally, Gilles Marini simply couldn't do a routine that didn't blow me away. He is definitely my favorite.
So who will take home the winner's 100k bonus? An additional couple returns home this week. After that the three last dance teams have a final dance-off. I can't wait until the final show airs! Luckily I have a DVR for a backup just in case something comes up.
