How to save money on auto fuel and maintenance costs
Saving money on car expenses can really add up. Gas prices seem to get higher all the time but drivers need not worry because there things they can do to lower there fuel costs. Taking steps to do this can help you save a significant amount of money.
Car pool or walk when possible:
This is one of the best things you can do to save on gas. Car pooling not only helps the environment but it helps save you gas as well as save wear and tear on your car. Finding someone who lives close to you that you work with or go to school with is a good idea. Riding together to these places saves both of you money. Instead of paying to have gas everyday you will be paying much less because you won;t be using your car as much. Walking when it is possible is good for your car and for your health. Using gas as a reason to get you active could be a good thing. Walking saves you from starting or car or using it especially if your destination is close. If someone in your house also has something to do why not do it together instead of having to use the car again and again.
Change your oils and fluids:
Being sure to change all of your oils and fluids at the right time can help you save money. Ideally they should be checked and changed every three or four months depending on how much you actually drive. If your car is lacking the necessary oils and fluids it causes your car to have to work harder ultimately using more energy which results in the use of more gas. Also be sure to use the oil recommend in your car manual.
Choose a car that is fuel efficient:
Hybrids offer better gas mileage and are much better for the environment. Hybrid offer more miles per gallon. There are hybrid cars that offer as much as 30 miles per gallon of gas. That is a considerable difference because many cars don't even get 20 miles to the gallon. Hybrids can save you hundreds of dollars a year on gas or more. And the best part is most if not all car companies make all there models with a hybrid version these days. Many people are noticing the benefits of having a hybrid car.
Remove snow tires:
If you use snow tires in the winter be sure to change them once the spring and summer hits. Not only will it save your winter tires from wear and tear but it will also help save gas. Deep tread-ed tires or bigger tires do use more fuel than regular ones. Changing them back and forth will help you to save on wear and tear to your tires.
Shop around for gas:
All gas stations are different. If they weren't there wouldn't be so many around. Since everyone is different they also offer different prices. Some are cheaper than others even if it is only a 10 cent save per gallon in the long run that does add up. If you are getting 10 or 15 gallons of gas that does add up to dollars in savings. In a month that could be a good savings.
