Helping Luck to Come Your Way

Luck is something which we all wish for, although not all of us place ourselves in a position where we are the most likely recipient. Many people have heard me say that golf is a game of skill, mental ability and luck. This is very true not only of golf, but of virtually everything in life. Without learning certain skills, both physical and mental, you are unlikely to be in "the right place at the right time" in order to enjoy the benefits of a visitation from lady luck.

If you begin your day with a vague thought at the back of your mind that you are "never lucky" then it is almost guaranteed that you will not be lucky. This thought in fact stops you from getting yourself into a position whereupon luck may become your friend. If you do not think something will happen, then why would you even bother?

If instead you set out with a spring in your step, a twinkle in your eye and thoughts centering upon feeling that you are just the luckiest person in the world, how do you think this would impact upon your actions and reactions to the events you encounter throughout your day? Would you make more effort, or run that extra mile? Of course you would. Everyone who thinks that success is within reach will be more motivated to "go for it". But if you do not think that you are lucky, would you even try? Probably not.

Luck could be described as something which can happen when preparation and opportunity meet up. It rarely appears when opportunity is met with a lack of preparedness. You will see examples of a lack of preparation multiple times a day. I notice it in so many different ways.

How many people walk along the street and do not pick up those "lucky pennies" which are lying around? Contrast this with an enterprising young lady who went into the street armed with a long stick to which she had attached blue-tack, and had almost fifty pounds in her pocket within a half hour as she deftly retrieved coins which had been lost by others through open grates. Those people who lost their coins may in fact feel that they had been unlucky. This young lady on the other hand went home feeling that she was the luckiest person in the world.

Another clear example of not positioning oneself for luck is to be seen in every car park. How many times have you seen several people drive straight past spaces, looking as if they just haven't seen them? I see this so often; drivers can be completely blinded by their fear of not getting a space! If you do not expect to see a car parking space you will drive straight past them! Your thoughts really do create your reality. Whatever you expect to happen does indeed happen because you MAKE it happen.

If you would like luck to come your way you will need to learn to expect it to happen, and then at least you will position yourself in a place where opportunity can miraculously appear. Call it what you like - positive thinking, faith, luck or confidence - the fact remains that how you think CREATES your reality in this life.
