The Colorado Medical Marijuana program has turned out to be a big success, so big that even authorities find it difficult to handle. More than 9000 people have registered as medical marijuana patients in Colorado; and the list just keeps getting bigger. The increase in the number of patients has been averaging around 1000 a month. However, the month of June showed a drastic increase in the number of patients to almost twice the average number.
The department keeps getting flooding with emails and phone calls and mail for information and they try their best to stay on top of the requests. It is speculated that this growth of the marijuana might have been effected due to the reputation of such programs across the country and also due to the change in the political scenario.
Also, comparing the population of Colorado with Oregon, Oregon has about 30,000 medical marijuana patients which is less compared to the number in Colorado so its speculated the increase in patients will not stop anytime soon.
Even with all this growth certain political groups with bad agendas, want to limit the number of patients a caregiver can provide for. With this information why would anyone think it is a good idea to limit the number of patients a caregiver can give provide for? If the demand for medicine continues to grow at the predicted level, who is going to provide this medicine?
Growing cannabis in the homes of sick people is much less safe when compared to having people who know what they are doing grow the medicine. In fact, expecting someone to care for a sick person and learn how to grow the medicine that person requires is a little much to ask from most people.
The agenda of those proposing the limit on caregivers is there way of getting a step closer to banning medical cannabis. Marijuana is considered to be one of the safest therapeutic substances. It has a number of therapeutic applications such as:
Increasing the appetite and relief from nausea; Reducing interlobular pressure ( pressure within the eye); Muscle relaxant and reduces spasms; Relieves chronic pain.
Medical Marijuana is also used in treating other conditions like:
Glaucoma The main cause of blindness in the USA is a medical condition wherein the pressure inside the eye increases and thereby damages vision. Marijuana helps alleviate pain associated with glaucoma and also relieves the pressure. AIDS Marijuana can reduce the vomiting and nausea in AIDS patients .It also helps regain their appetite. Cancer The disease is best cured with chemotherapy and this treatment is often accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Marijuana also helps reduce nausea and vomiting and also alleviates pain in cancer patients. Multiple Sclerosis The biggest neurological disability in the US among middle aged adults causes muscular spasms and pain. Marijuana helps by relieving the pain and reducing the spasms and tremors. Epilepsy Epileptic seizures are prevented in some patients using Marijuana.
All these applications are termed legitimate across several states in the United States and the government. These negative, propaganda backed groups only look at the false stigma cannabis has been given in the past to push their way of life on other people who need the help of medical cannabis.
