Baby Boomers are now in their fifties and sixties and are ready to take charge of their lives in new and sometimes challenging ways to provide an abundant income in retirement in a venture that is both rewarding and fulfilling.

Baby Boomers are usually free of the financial and time demands of bringing up a family, but still have high income needs as they will have established a certain lifestyle that they would like to maintain and even in many cases improve, well into their retirement years. They have dreams that want to achieve, i.e. travelling, building their smaller, easy care dream home etc. which will eat into their savings and they need to have a plan to provide for these goals especially as many people with superannuation will have seen their nest egg quite dramatically reduced.

Baby Boomers have a lifetime of experience, skills and self-knowledge, that they have acquired after raising children or watching those around them and their various employment situations will have given them expertise in many areas.

In a fast-changing and turbulent world, Baby Boomers are ready to create greater meaning in their own lives and in the lives of others through their entrepreneurial initiatives. Starting a business at any time is a commitment, but for the Baby Boomer there is usually a greater desire to succeed as the retirement years are that much closer and with the improvement in health care the average lifespan has lengthened considerably and that is a big factor to take into consideration.

Baby Boomers have a great work ethic and a strong social conscience and their success in business means that they can contribute back to the community, both financially and time wise and this is important for their sense of achievement knowing that they are able to give back to the community.

It is important for businesses to be seen as not only successful but also quite involved in doing good in the wider community. This a great way to lead and provide inspiration to up and coming entrepreneurs to not only think of accomplishing goals for themselves but to make a difference in their own community and other causes in other countries.

Once established in their new venture, Baby Boomers have a great opportunity to mentor young people in all walks of life, whether it be through schools, youth groups etc. and also people in the next age brackets will all benefit from the wisdom of those with life skills and knowledge to guide them on the right path to success.

While the majority of entrepreneurs may start their businesses with big financial goals, there are more important aspects involved in a Baby Boomer business plan. There are clearly defined priorities of many Baby Boomers in how they will build and operate their own businesses:
