The LTO-4 data cartridges developed by TDK are the first backup tapes of the world that have efficiently passed the certification test by CVE. CVE (Compliance Verification Entity) conducts the verification tests in order to maintain the linear tape open (LTO) standardization. The rewritable LTO 4 tape cartridge introduced by TDK is D2407-LTO4 while the TDK WORM enabled LTO-4 is D2407W-LTO4. TDK continues to work in close contact with the manufacturers of tape drives, which helps it to design and develop robust backup tape storage products that deliver excellent results in all the hardware devices. Collaboration of TDK with the hardware manufacturers has contributed to develop a highly durable ultrium-4 tape media format which has passed the tough testing system of CVE.

The complexity & scope of the digital networks have grown with the passage of time. Therefore this growth resulted in remarkable increase in data volumes thus contributing to the increased demand for faster and high capacity storage technologies. Large 800 GB recording capacity and rapid transfer speed of 120 MB/second (native) makes TDK LTO-4 the most preferred tape format ideal for today’s large capacity & high speed servers. Both the transfer speed and the recording capability of TDK D2407-LTO4 tape doubles when the recording information is compressed at 2:1 compression ratio.

The factors that contributed in increasing the recording capacity of TDK LTO-4 tape media are 896 recording tracks, and tape reel having width of 12.65mm. The LTO-3 tape media has 704 tracks while the LTO-1 and LTO-2 tape has 384 and 512 data tracks respectively. The reduction of the TDK D2407-LTO4 tape’s thickness allows more tape to be incorporated into the LTO-4 tape cartridge. This considerably enhances the performance, durability and ensures greater precision of recorded information. Read & write signals in TDK LTO4 ultrium format are highly stable which leads to superior data reliability. Super Finavinx magnetic particles are used in D2407-LTO4 tape which ensures high output power. The tape reel of TDK LTO-4 is ultra fine and the magnetic layer’s thickness is controlled to nanometer order.

TDK D2407-LTO4 tape cartridge has a leader pin that ensures seamless interplay with the linear tape open drive thus and maximizes the performance. TDK LTO-4 tape features superior dimensional stability and has a strong base film. The dual-layer tape coating technique results in stabilized output level of TDK D2407-LTO4 tape. High level of durability in TDK LTO4 is ensured by the TDC binder and EB (electron beam) curing.
