Today we are faced with the greatest economic mess our generation has experienced. Millions of Americans are out of work and the chances of many of those jobs returning in the forseable future are remote.

Ironically we have experienced the greatest period of prosperity this country has seen in its history. More citizens owned their own home then ever before and more millionaires were created in the last twelve years then at any other point in our history.

However, with those twelve years seemingly a lifetime behind us we are now looking for ways to pick up the pieces of the shattered lives this recession has created. The election of Barack Obama filled the nation with optimism that better times would be right around the corner, but unemployment continues to increase, the capital markets continue to be closed to many individuals and the turn around many had been anticipating seems a long way off.

There are those that believe the "turn around" everyone is hoping for will be psychological not economical. More specifically, the resiliency of the American spirit which created this great nation will once again have to come to the rescue. Individuals will have to realize their future lies not with their ability secure a job from a unfaithful corporation, but with their ability to capitalize on the free enterprise system and our capitalistic system.

Those individuals who will come to the realization they are going to have to "make their own way" will be the ones who prosper in this new economy. Industrious and innovative individuals who begin businesses of their own and control their own destiny will be the pioneers of the new millennium. Gone are the days when we trust our financial futures to companies that don't consider their employee's best interest when making crucial decisions. The people who begin to realize their only security lies with their ability to generate their own income will come out the winners.

The tax laws in our country benefit small business owners. For example anyone who owns ANY type of small business has at least one hundred and fifty more tax deductions than their counterpart who is strictly an employee. Therefore it is likely we will begin to see more and more individuals starting their own small business ventures in the coming years. Not only to create income but to relieve some of the tax burden that will be created by the new taxes. However, with the capital markets dried up and SBA loans extinct has the dodo bird how will the new entrepreneur finance their new venture? The greatest place for new business owners to launch a new small business will be the Internet!

The internet is the greatest thing to happen to global business since electric power. The internet changes the rules for EVERYTHING in business. During my years as an executive for the major telecommunications companies we NEVER experienced anything resembling the revolution the internet has created. I believe the internet is where the next billionaires will be created. Literally anyone can start any one of a million different types of businesses online with virtually NO resources. The monthly overhead of an online business is a fraction of what someone starting a traditional brick and mortar business would expect to pay. Furthermore, the internet only limits someone by their creativity.
