There are number of materials which can be used for coating the floors and walls of the swimming pool. Commonly there are about four coating materials which are used for coating the floors and walls of the swimming pools. These materials are mentioned as follows:

• Polyurethane
• Epoxy

The epoxy coating material:
It is commonly used for the coating of the floor and walls of the swimming pool. It is really very resistant towards the action of the chemicals and it turns little yellow or less glossy when exposed directly to the sunlight. It is very good in forming a hard and strong surface with the concrete and thus offers great durability. It is available in two forms that are solvent and water dissolved formulations. It should be coated on the wall in the temperature ranging from sixty to eighty degrees with little humidity. The epoxy wall coating dries up within few hours of the application in the hot and humid temperature. But you might need to wait for about two to three days in order to get it fixed completely to your pool walls and floor. The fixing time of the epoxy coating can be reduced to almost half if it is applied at the temperature of ninety degree. The major problems which come into the picture while applying the epoxy coating is the color streaking, blush and the proper finishing.

The air which usually gets trapped in the nap roller causes the bubbling and because of these bubbles color streaks are formed. And the blushes are because of the greasy or waxy layer. These layers are the result of the atmospheric moisture and the frequent changing of the temperature. If the pool is used frequently by the people like if it is a commercial swimming pool or if it is in a hotel then its walls and floors are required to be coated after every six months.

Polyurethane coating material:
It is a flexible pool coatings and relatively expensive than the epoxy coating material. It is very much resistant to the action of the chemicals as compared to the epoxy coating materials and their color does not change easily even if they are exposed to the direct sunlight. It is really very durable and offers a glossy finish. But it is not recommended to be applied directly on the concrete floor. It can bind properly if and only if it is coated over the epoxy primer coating.
