Composite doors offer unparalleled security for the modern homeowner. Also known as G.R.P. doors, G.R.P. stands for Glass Reinforced Polymer which is compressed into a molded skin.
This skin can have the look and feel of wood or whatever other material depending on the mold. This skin can be made in a variety of colours, even wood colours and will not fade, ever as it is totally ultraviolet stable.
GRP skins are extremely tough and will not bend, bow, break, dent or buckle. In fact, most new GRP front doors today come with an estimated (conservative) lifespan of around thirty five years so it is unlikely that you will ever have to replace a front door or back door again, as it should look as good in a few decades as it did the day you bought it.
Just a quick wipe with a damp cloth every now and then, hey presto, your door is maintained! Compare this to a UPVC door that can 'yellow' after a few years or may have handles that are falling off! Or worse, a wooden door which can 'stretch' and needs painting every so often.
Composite doors are filled with thermally insulated materials and can even come with eco-friendly frames made from recycled materials, such as the 'eco' frame by Birtley Building Products, so they are more energy efficient too, something of increasing importance to the modern consumer.
Actually, composite doors beat a standard UPVC door or wooden door on just about every specification, so it is no wonder that more of us are choosing the composite option rather than UPVC, which is rapidly becoming outdated material technology.
Door manufacturers have to go the extra mile to meet rigorous standards demanded for 'police preferred' specification and of course, industry standards such as the British Standards Institute (BSI) PAS23 and PAS24. To meet these standards, door manufacturers conduct tests such as attempting illegal entry through a 'test' composite door and one test even involves a small crane and a 70lb ball which is smashed into a door at different points, just to make sure it doesn't break (try doing that with a wooden or UPVC door!).
Most composite door manufacturers fit the best multi-pin locking mechanisms into their doors, for example those provided by well known lock company Yale and for even more security, Yale provide a camera attachment and spyhole which automatically takes a picture of anyone that rings the doorbell.
Composite doors can of course also come fitted with spyholes, strong door chains and other security features, even a reinforced steel frame. These new type of doors are becoming the preferred choice for homeowners and home builders so when your front door or back door needs replacing, look up your local composite door manufacturer or supplier rather than going for the UPVC option.
