A well-organized jewelry box will go a long way in helping you pick the right jewelry to add that extra something to your outfits and personality. Organizing jewelry does not take too long and can be easily accomplished if certain simple steps are followed.

Do Not Leave Your Jewelry Lying Around:

Collect all your jewelry and put it in one place. This is the first thing that you need to do to organize your jewelry. After a long night, it might be tempting to just throw your jewelry on the dressing table and promptly forget about it. At least make it a habit to put it inside a jewelry box. Then you know where to look and you will also find it easy to mix and match jewelry.

Categorize and Match:

Match earring with necklaces and bangles and sort everything into categories. If you have a collection of bracelets, categorize them to everyday wear and party wear. Group all similar items together and keep aside the ones that you are beginning to get tired of and those which were bought on an impulse.

Also sort the jewelry according to type. Sort gold jewelry, silver jewelry, and platinum jewelry and so on. You can also categorize them on the basis of gemstones, diamonds, formal, casual, party or office wear. If you do not own much jewelry a simpler categorization like chains, pendants, earring, bracelets etc. would be a good option.

Clean Your Jewelry Regularly:

Jewelry must be cleaned and polished regularly so that it’s ready to wear. Gold and diamond jewelry can be cleaned with warm, soapy water, rinsed under clear running water and then gently patted dry with a soft, lint free cloth. Silver jewelry needs silver polish and a rub down with a soft cloth. If there are any items with missing clasps or screws, broken links etc. they can be taken to the jeweler for repair.

Store Your Jewelry:

Once your jewelry is cleaned and sorted, you can then store them in different ways.

  1. Keep the smaller items and the everyday wear in a jewelry box which is easily accessible. Perhaps you would like to place it on the dressing table itself.

  2. The dresser drawers can be fitted with dividers to store different items, if you don’t want to put your jewelry outside in a box.

  3. Necklaces, chains and bracelets can be hung neatly in a row of hooks near the dresser.

  4. If you have precious antiques and family heirlooms, store them in a safe and secure place. In case of loss by theft or by any other means, more than the cash value of the jewelry, it is the sentimental value loss that may be more distressing. Take special care in storing such items.

  5. Valuable items that you do not wear on a regular basis can be stored safely in a bank locker.

Once all you’re jewelry has been cleaned, sorted, organized and stored, picking the right jewelry for the occasion will be a breeze. It will become very easy for you to mix and match the necklaces, bracelets and earrings for the outfit and for the occasion.

The right jewelry adds style, elegance and sophistication to the wearer, so spend some time in organizing your collection.
