The very basic fact is that the baby’s development of six senses starts from the mother’s womb itself. The sensory organs start developing at different stages of the nine-month pregnancy. The baby’s hearing is one of them, which tends to develop from the 24th week of pregnancy. Hearing is a very important feature to the baby’s learning and habits. The baby responds differently to various noises and also understands the difference in the kinds of noises in a very short period of time. The pitch at which one speaks to the baby is of a great matter to the baby’s hearing. Babies prefer and react better at high pitched voice as compared to the low pitched one for some it may be surprising that the baby can distinguish between the parents and other voices right from the birth in fact from the womb itself, especially if it’s the mother’s voice.

The baby’s speaking habit and learning things can be made easy, simply by speaking to him/her. More the one talk to the baby the better the baby chooses words and sounds it would make first. Depending on the baby’s hearing, the baby starts making noise by the 6th – 7th month of age and probably starts’ speaking few easy words by the end of a year. it has been observed that the baby responds to various sounds and music differently. This has been seen with the baby’s action of smiling, giggling, moving the legs, waving hands or simply moving the baby depending on the type of music. It is not in particular that the baby may show a particular action on some music, this depends solely on the baby and the baby’s hearing capability. Different varieties of music should be played to stimulate and develop the baby’s hearing and auditory development. To test the baby’s hearing or understand the baby’s hearing techniques. It is necessary to know how the baby reacts to various sounds and how sensitive is his/her hearing to various noises. As one knows the baby develops this feature from the womb itself, it is very obvious that the baby is quite comfortable with noises he/she has heard in the womb. The new noise or voice may be different for him to react. This variation may depend on the baby’s temperament and nature.

Baby’s hearing can be considered normal and fine if certain things and actions are observed developing within time limits. The baby should be able to recognize his/her name, knows familiar sounds, react to changing environment, and point to certain things by the end of a year. If the baby shows no reaction to such things than it might be a matter of concern and the doctor may be needed to consult with. At times the baby may also have hearing problems due to cold and cough. Due care should be taken regarding this. If the baby still finds it difficult to cope up with different sounds or shows least interest in changing sounds the baby should be given a screen testing. This is available in many hospitals and no delay should be done to take proper treatment if the baby’s hearing problem seems to be too severe.
