Common signs of Rosacea

The first warning signs of persons developing Rosacea seem to be an increased sensitivity of the skin including at face cosmetic products that might burn the skin. In time, redness of the cheeks assembling a sun burn occurs and the person tends to blush very easily. All signs of the condition are temporary, they come and go.

Main symptoms of Rosacea are also facial flushing triggered by the sun shines and especially alcohol consume that stimulate the tiny blood vessels to dilate and cause the actual redness. Women seem to manifest the redness especially on the nose, cheeks, forehead and chins; in men it is more likely to occur on the nose but also on the neck and chest. An unusual form of the red pattern is the one assembling a butterfly.

Some of the Rosacea sufferers develop small red pimples on the red areas or at their edge similar to the pimples in acne but different by the lack of white or black heads. Due to the blood vessel expansion, tiny red lines can appear on the patients’ face called teleangiectasie; their localization is usually on the check surface. Men can develop the signs of a red, enlarged swollen nose, condition known as rhinophyma and usually seen in alcoholics.

A severe symptom of Rosacea is the irritation of the eyes evolving with dryness, redness, burning sensation, crusted mucus and tearing sensation; conjunctivitis and swollen eyelids are also common. The persons suffering from these symptoms cannot tolerate eye lenses; the vision is disturbed and blurry only in more severe cases of Rosacea. According to the symptoms, Rosacea can easily be misdiagnosed due to its assembling to lupus or acne.

The dilated and expanded face blood vessels may establish a connection between Rosacea and frequent headaches in Rosacea patients.

Rosacea seems to be developing in phases; in the first estate the patient can only notice an increased tendency to blush, eye irritation and high sensitivity to skin care products. In the next phases, facial redness of the nose, cheeks and forehead appears in transitory times. Frequent flushing is due to blood vessel dilatation caused by an increased blood flow in the facial area. In time, teleangiectasie develops on the face skin.

Small pimples appear on the red surface or at its edge and redness and teleangiectasie tend to become permanent in untreated cases. Along with these symptoms, eye irritation develops and left untreated it can lead to more serious complications. In severe cases, the vision is damaged.

Left untreated, in time Rosacea tends to lead to the occurrence of rhinophyma, an enlarged red swollen nose caused by the increased secretion of the sebaceous glands; the condition is more commonly encountered in men.
