We all know that music is a powerful part of bringing people together. We also know that music is intertwined with our memories of the past. When picking an entertainment company for your wedding, social or corporate event it is important to pick a company that understands the importance of the music being played. The problem today is that many DJs and bands think that as long as they are just playing music, they are doing their job. Also, with IPods and music readily available for download off the internet, now everyone thinks that they can be a DJ. Unfortunately, these companies are not conscious of the overall affect their music will have on your guests. There are very few companies that specialize in the art of providing music that is able to uplift and inspire your guests to be fully self-expressed.

Providing music, whether it is prerecorded or live, is an art form and will have the ability to create positive emotions, bring people together and be a part of creating powerful memories. Music moves our souls. Around the world music has been utilized for centuries to bring people together. In the book, The Secret Power of Music, by David Tame, he shared, "music is more than a language, it is the language of languages. It can be said that of all the arts there is none" other than music that is more powerful in moving and changing consciousness.

The funny thing is the reason we are moved by music, no one really knows, yet. We just know that music prompts powerful emotions and can be linked to our memory. There are some studies that are helping us to understand a little more about why we are affected by music emotionally and physically. In 2001 Dr. Anne Blood of McGill University in Montreal shared her belief that music activates the parts of the brain that makes us happy, this means that music has the power to benefit our physical and mental well being. But why we have developed such a biologically based appreciation of music is not clear. It makes sense that the appreciation for food and sex evolved out of the need for survival, but Blood told Associated Press that, "music did not develop strictly for survival purposes."

Do you remember the songs you loved as a teenager, or the song that you and your first boyfriend/girlfriend said was YOUR SONG? Peter Janata of UC Davis has done research in the area of music and how it can influence our memory and it has been discovered that songs that were thought of as "pleasing" were definitely more likely to evoke memories than the songs that were not as pleasing. That is why picking an entertainment company that will play music that is pleasing to you and your guests is essential. Since music preferences vary from person to person, no two events should ever sound the same. Many entertainment companies have a standard set of songs that they play at every event. These songs may or may not be songs that you and your guests will enjoy. That is why choosing a company that will take the time to go over song choices, in detail, before your event is important to your events success.

In short, why music is so powerful to our lives is still unknown. But at this point who cares! What we know is that the right music moves our soul and brings us all together. Basically music has the ability to help promote positive emotions and our memory is deeply intertwined with the vibration of music. Having the right music at a wedding, social or corporate event can uplift us all and create unforgettable memories.
