Jockstraps have gotten a bad reputation lately. Most teens and young adults won't wear them for all of the comments made about them. They also don't want to be embarrassed or caught wearing one when they are seen as not cool or have part of their anatomy hanging out. They are opting for compression shorts which are being advertised by name brand companies. However, compression shorts don't provide the best in terms of support, proper fit, nor protect as jockstraps.

If you are an avid sports player you should know what a jockstrap is. If you've played sports growing up you've probably owned one. Most sports players have been deemed "jocks" because of the jockstrap. It is a elastic material which is attached to a protective cup which might be made of metal (in most cases steel) or plastic that surrounds the male genital area. There are jockstraps designed for specific sports such as baseball, or football, etc.

You want to make sure that you have proper fit which is not too tight as this would be uncomfortable. But neither do you want it to been too loose as this wouldn't fully cover the genital area not stay In place. This could not only affect your game play as you'd be too busy trying to adjust the cup and not paying attention to your opponent. The worst of which would cause you to lose the game.

The jockstrap is designed for the male sports player to be protected from injury. Many scoff at the idea that they might get hurt and refuse to wear one. This is a mistake. One could suffer from genital, penile, or testicular injury. If you suffer a large cut this could set up an infection. And at the very worse end of the spectrum could cause an erectile dysfunction if a jockstrap isn't worn. This is not meant to scare you but warn you of the risks that are involved when one isn't worn.

Compression shorts are the latest athletic design in terms of support for men that participate in athletic activities. Usually they are made of spandex and keep the male genitals in place. Some have even suggested that performance might be improved, but there is no proof of this. However, compression shorts don't have a support cup so it would not be as great of a support as a jockstrap as you would need to purchase a cup in addition to the shorts.

Any male athlete wants to be able to be the best whether that is in baseball, football, soccer, basketball, hockey, etc. Parents want their kids to participate in little league, high school, and college sports. But no one imagines that they might get hurt playing their favorite game. This is why it is important to buy the right athletic support to prevent this from occurring. You need to make sure that you get the proper fit, support and protection to ensure that if you do get hit you won't sustain a horrendous injury.
