Just like any other baby, baby iguanas also need special care and attention to ensure proper development. As babies, iguanas are fragile and delicate and therefore you need to be extra cautious and careful with them at this stage.

You need to meet certain needs when providing for your baby iguana in order to prevent illnesses or even death. Your top priority at this stage is to make sure that everything you do for your iguana is carefully planned and carried out.

Here are some of the important factors to consider when taking care of your baby iguana:

Shelter: You cannot simply use any cage for your pet. While the material used to build the cage might not matter much, the size and what is inside needs to be carefully planned out. For one, you should provide warm carpeting or an artificial turf as a covering for the floor area, in order to keep your pet warm and comfortable. If for some reason you cannot get hold of these materials, then plain newspapers can do the trick. Another thing to think of is to provide branches or other climbing accessories for your baby iguana. These accessories are crucial to develop strong muscles and keep your iguana active and healthy.

Temperature: It is also important to maintain the right temperature for your iguana and a simple thermometer can help you achieve this task. It is best to maintain the temperature of 85 degrees in the day and 70 at night. Placing the cage near a source of heat is a wise idea to keep up the temperature and to allow your pet to rest comfortably while being heated. During the winter, you need to monitor the temperatures carefully and check the shelter on a regular basis to make sure you are providing adequate heat for your iguana.

Food intake: Baby iguanas and iguanas in general require a diet with a good balance calcium, phosphorous and vitamin D3 to stay healthy. Thus, you should feed them green leafy vegetables, plants and fruits regularly. Also you will have to increase the meal proportions as your iguana grows.

These three factors should provide you with the right base to get you started on taking care of your baby iguana. Also be sure to get your iguana checked up by a vet at least once a year to make sure that he is growing properly and at a healthy rate.
