Hair loss in men is often referred to as male pattern baldness or androgenetic alopecia and is caused by the over production of DHT also known as DiHydro Testosteron. DHT is produced by the male hormone testosterone and binds itself to the hair follicles. When produced in excess it disturbs the natural growth pattern of the hair making it difficult to grow hair in the areas affected. In most cases these areas include around the temples, crown and top of the head. The main reason only these areas are commonly affected are because of the increased number of sweat glands in these areas producing the DHT.

Because DHT is thought to be the cause of the majority of male pattern baldness it is believed by many that the most effective way of correcting this problem is to stop or prevent the over production of it making it possible to grow healthy hair again.

The reason more men than women suffer from hair loss issues is because men produce more testosterone than women. While testosterone is a male hormone it is produced by both men and women however it is produced in more quantity in the male body than the female making hair loss an issue when too much is produced.

Although there are many products available that claim to stop and prevent hair loss and even help grow hair back, there are few that are actually effective enough to notice a difference. These products range from all natural supplements to prescription drugs. While the natural supplements can generally be found and purchased almost anywhere the prescription drugs can only be obtained by seeking the advice of a physician and getting a prescription.

While the prescription drugs available to help prevent male baldness are sometimes effective they can contain drugs and chemicals that may cause serious and in some cases dangerous side effects. The other alternative, natural supplements contain only natural ingredients and are generally a combination of many different vitamins that work together to target the problem and make it possible to grow healthy hair again.

Before taking any prescription medication it is advised to speak to a physician about any medications you are currently taking to be sure that they will not interfere with each other. This is important because some hair loss treatments can make necessary medications such as those for blood pressure or heart conditions ineffective. In such cases it may be necessary to seek other alternatives for hair loss treatments.

In nearly all cases of hair loss treatments it will generally take at least six to eight weeks before you notice new hair growth so don’t become discouraged if it takes awhile to see results. This is true whether you choose prescription treatments or natural supplements.
