A Digital LED. Sign is a digital, electronic sign that displays text messages, pictures, gif animation, and video files. Often L.E.D. signs are referred to L.E.D. display, L.E.D. displays, L.E.D. sign, L.E.D. signs, message centers, electronic message centers, outdoor message center, digital sign, digital signs, jumbotron, electronic sign, electronic signs, electronic display, digital screen, video board, video screen, advertising screen and signboard.

Led signs are available in Monochrome (red), Bi/Tri Color (red & green OR red & blue), and Full Color (red, green & blue). Some signs are capable of displaying text and/or numbers, pictures, animation and video. Some signs offer grayscale; that is, the colors can display many different shades using 1 specific color (I.e. red). A monochrome L.E.D. sign with grayscale is similar to a black and white TV because of the grayscale aspect. A full color L.E.D. sign can display millions and sometimes trillions of colors by combining the grayscale of red, green and blue, and also displaying combinations of those shade (I.e. red mixed with blue yields purple) similar to that of a full color TV.

What differentiates one L.E.D. sign from another L.E.D. sign? The answer lays in the L.E.D.s, pixel pitch, and pixels.

There are different levels of L.E.D.s (Light Emitting Diode). The longest lasting is Nichia made in Japan. Throughout the course of 100,000 hours the brightness in the Nichia lamp only reduces 2.5% (in red, green and blue). Then Cree, made in China under an American brand, Cotco is a product of Cree made in China, AXT made in China under American brand, Silan made in China under Chinese brand and Taiwan made in Taiwan under Taiwanese brand. The Taiwan brand is said to be the most cost effective. Throughout the course of 100,000 hours the Taiwan brand will decrease it’s brightness about 28% (red and green) and 45% (blue lamps).

Pixel Pitch: is the measurement from the center of one pixel to the center of the neighboring pixel. Pixel pitch is measured in millimeter. 10mm, 12mm, 16mm, 20mm ,25mm, 31.25mm. 10mm is extremely close together you will have a clearer picture than compared to a 25mm. In the outdoor L.E.D. world P10 is high definition with 928 pixels per square foot. Our most popular and economical display is our P20 with 232 pixels per square foot.

Pixels: A PIXEL is a cluster of L.E.D.s. In other words it is a group of L.E.D. lights in a specific area. That cluster might have 1, 2, 3 or 4 L.E.D.s.

Many uneducated customers seek to buy signs solely on the merits of size and price. This is a big "NO NO". Why? A sign can be roughly 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide with a pixel pitch of 25mm (That is 48 pixels tall x 104 pixels wide). Whereas, a similar size sign can be roughly 4 feet tall and 8 feet wide with a pixel pitch of 10mm (That is 128 pixels tall x 256 pixels wide). This is the difference between night and day when viewing a picture. Clearly the 10mm sign will be clearer, less pixilated and have a higher resolution Digital L.E.D. signs have gained popularity in the U.S. market. And will continue to rise in popularity do to the ongoing research and development in the sign industry. Additionally, L.E.D. signs make it easier for businesses to update their content using remote controls, and wireless devices. Business owners are looking to save money, save time, and are doing so by switching to low cost, energy efficient digital L.E.D. signs.
