If you have been trying to find a way to make money online or start a home business you have definitely seen all the ads out there filled with fluff and hype. There are so many get rich quick schemes and scams being promoted online that it makes you wonder if there is really a legitimate way to make money online.

Speaking from personal experience I can tell you that it can and is being done but it is not nearly as easy as folks make it out to be. No matter what anyone tells you the only way to make money is to sell something. How else can you make money online? There is no other way.

You must have a good product that is in high demand in order to make money online. Without this foundation you will be set-up for failure. Once you get a really good product you must devise a marketing system in order to sell your product.

Granted, selling online is much different than selling in the online world. Your storefront in the online world is your website. Even if you have the greatest product in the world, if your website is dull and unappealing you will not make sales. Your website is your online image and you must put the time and effort into making it as attractive as possible.

There are literally millions of websites on the internet today and depending on what type of product you are selling will determine what type of website you need. There are many things to consider for your site:

Headline

The headline of your website is arguably the most important part of your site. A visitor to your site makes an instant decision whether they are going to stay or not. You must capture their attention with a really good headline.

Content

Your site must give your visitors and potential customers good information. You need to build trust with your visitors so that they will buy from you. Giving them good free information and even a free report is a great way to build that trust.

Lead Capture

Make sure at the very least that you capture your visitor's first name and e-mail address so that you can follow-up with them. You need to use a lead capture or doorway page along with an autoresponder to do this. It may sound more difficult than it really is. It is a vital step in the online selling process. Many people will not buy your product at first and need to be exposed to it several times before purchasing. Many say that the fortune is in the follow-up.

These are the basics to setting-up your web presence. After constructing your website and getting it online you will need to let people know about it. Driving traffic to your website is another subject altogether and one that can be quite confusing to the new, inexperienced internet marketer. There are many traffic generation methods online and if done correctly you can drive as much traffic as you want to your website.

All in all, if you are determined and driven to succeed online then take the time in building a good site with good content around a high demand product. Then concentrate all your efforts on building traffic to your site which will ultimately build you a contact list of prospects and customers for life.
