If you're anything like me then you'll love your food. The problem is there are hundreds of different kinds of foods out there and choosing between them can be extremely difficult. Then comes the deserts which are plentiful and often taste divine. Most people enjoy eating deserts than anything else which is partly the reason why it's hard to diet because we find it hard to stay away from sweets. I love sweets and cakes and all that stuff but I also enjoy a good meal. I'm not a great cook but I can follow instructions. Picking up a recipe book can be a daunting task to some and you might fail the first couple of tries but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to cook a meal without lifting the book off the shelf.

A good guide to healthy eating is to have a wide variety. You can't focus all your energy on chocolate or pasta all the time. If you try your best to take in all kinds of food, within reason, then you're sure to have a half decent diet. Probably much better than the one you have now.

You've all heard the famous five-a-day on TV. It's a good one. Fruit and vegetables are at the core of our health and if you ignore them then you don't hold out much hope of being healthy. Different fruit and vegetables have different minerals vital to the human body.

There are things you should be wary of. If you have a lot of excess fat then you could be prone to diabetes and high blood pressure. Health problems can always occur if you don't look after your diet.

There is the opposite end of the scale. If you are too thin then it can cause problems of its own. I'm sure you've all heard of the singer here and there who's died after starving themselves to get thin.

When cooking a meal just be wary of the portion you give yourself. Don't be giving yourself too big a portion because what your body doesn't use will only be stored as fat.

If you do love your sweets and cakes then by all means indulge yourself every now and then. A friend of mine is steadily losing weight because she is watching what she eats and with that is still able to have a big Chinese take-away meal at the end of the week complete with a bowl of ice-cream. Just goes to show. If you don't have the time to exercise then at least try to get yourself into the habit of controlling what you eat during the week. At the weekend have a few sweets but be strict with yourself during the week. You'll get yourself into a habit and eventually you won't have to think about it. It will come naturally.
