Recycling has become a way of life and as a result, the manufacturing of recycle bins has become a vast, worldwide industry. There are literally hundreds of styles and numerous different types of bins that accommodate light and heavy recycle materials in any situation, from the average kitchen or rear porch to recycling facilities.

Landfill facilities and other centers that collect and process materials in substantial quantities are the leading users of transportable bins. Most of these are in the range of 30 to 40 cubic yard capacity, roll-off containers, which are easily changed out when full. Some facilities and centers use bins that are made from a tough, polymer and have a large opening that receives recyclables, and can be closed securely once the bin is full.

These bins are then loaded onto flatbed trailers and transported to any of the various processing facilities. The commercial, polymer-type containers are lighter weight than there steel counterparts, the roll-off containers and as such, are much less expensive to transport to and from centers. In addition, these bins are not subject to rust, corrosion or the damages that steel containers endure.

Intermediate size recycle bins are used in many places, such as home centers, nurseries, building supply centers and even mobile home parks. They are found in businesses or situations where a large bin is impractical and there is a substantial volume of recyclable materials. Some of the intermediate bins are manufactured in a similar configuration as the 5 cubic yard, portable dumpster. These bins are manufactured from steel and feature a two-piece polymer lid.

Home recycle bins are manufactured in virtually any size and configuration imaginable. In addition, they are available in a variety of designer colors that include the traditional recycle blue. Some models are designed for single item recycle, while others have double and triple containers for separating aluminum and glass or plastic. Certain of these product lines include upright, movable racks that hold up to four recycling containers, as well as newspapers and magazines. Most domestic recycle bins can be found at home centers and plumbing supply outlets that specialize in fixtures for a single family residence or a condominium.

Most commercial bins that are used for residential and small businesses are provided at no additional coat. This is understandable considering the disposal companies turn over the materials at the current recycle rates. The designer bins must be purchased and can be found through on line searches or by visiting a building or home supply center.
