Size does matter! Most especially for synthesizer. If you are looking for a smaller synth, then this might be the one you are looking for. It is called Alesis Micron. You will surely get stuck by its size for the first time. It’s just like a packed of chewing gum. This synth is really one of the smallest. Alesis Micron possesses a full synthesis of Ion power and is also compatible with Ion patches. It has a three octave keyboard which is light and springy that offers velocity and releases velocity action. However, performance controls of this synth are limited to three assignable 360 degrees knobs.

Alesis Micron features an opaque plastic control knob which is considered as Micron’s focal point. A ring of tiny buttons surrounds it that represents five available modes. These five modes are programs, set ups, config, rhythms and patterns. What I love with this synthesizer is its architecture. It‘s architecture is simple with 8 voice, 3 OSC, with a host of filters and modulation routings. Alesis Micron is also one of the most reliable synth available in the market today. One of the most impressive aspect of this synth is it works so great with hardware sequencer set up. It simply works without performance quirks.

Alesis Micron features:

• Industry-leading ION analog-modeling sound engine in a compact package

• 8 voices, each with 3 oscillators, 2 multimode filters, 3 envelope generators, 2 LFOs, sample and hold, and tracking generator

• Programmable step sequencer and arpeggiator

• Programmable rhythm sequencer for drum kits

• Dynamic real-time phrase sequencer

• Two multimode filters per voice, with 20 classic and unique filter types

• Three envelopes, two LFOs, and sample and hold per voice

• Twelve-route modulation matrix, with 114 sources and 78 destinations

• 32-part multitimbral -- up to 32 programs per setup

• Up to 26 simultaneous patterns or drum rhythms per setup

• Quick splitting and layering

• Over 500 preset programs, with space for 400 more

• Over 200 preset pattern sequences and 250 preset drum rhythms, with space for hundreds more

• Fully compatible with Ion programs

For me, Alesis Micron contains one of the best VA out there. Not to mention great effects as well as its reverbs and delays. Its sequencer is very easy to use and has a very good TR 808 and CR analog drum sounds. For its price, I think this is the best synth I’ve ever heard. There are expensive synths out are incomparable with this one. Alesis Micron has clear sounds and can be used in multiple styles of music.

So far, in my own experience, it is one hundred percent reliable.

There are some cons with this instrument of course. But I think those are all minimal and tolerable and in no time you’ll get used to it. Its editing patches are simple once you read and understand its few directions. It is also very helpful if you read the manual. Indeed, Alesis Micron is great together with its set up function. Overall, this synth is simply amazing!
