Exabyte tape storage products provide increased cost effectiveness and unparalleled data security features at lowest cost. Exabyte VXA tape technology has proven to be the most efficient and reliable tape storage format. Exabyte has added advanced technologies to its second generation VXA-2 tape drive. Exabyte VXA tape technology has been intelligently designed for rapid speed of 6 MB/s and greater native capacity of 80GB. Exabyte VXA-2 tape provides outstanding compatibility. Unprecedented reliability of VXA tape makes it superior than other tape storage formats. VXA tape technology offers scalable tape capacities, which have established new standards in tape storage industry.
VXA technology is best suited for small business enterprises workstations, desktops and entry-level servers. Exabyte VXA 2 drive offers investment protection feature of backward compatibility. Exabyte VXA-2 tape drive can read/write the VXA-1 tape cartridges. The compatible VXA-1 and VXA-2 tape cartridges are: 11100221 ( Exabyte 80GB VXA-2 tape ), 11100206 ( Exabyte 40GB VXA-2 tape ), 11100103 ( Exabyte 33GB VXA-1 tape ), 11100100 ( Exabyte 12GB VXA-1 tape ), and 11100106 ( Exabyte 20GB VXA-1 tape ).
Exabyte VXA-2 drive ensures low ownership cost. Majority of the test suites and tool sets that are used in the development of VXA-1 tape drive are also utilized for the manufacturing of VXA-2 tape drive. Exabyte has employed new ferrite recording heads which has enhanced the output characteristics and capacity. In order to ensure precise tape handling and improved signal processing, Exabyte has employed active rotor and PRML (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) mechanism to its VXA- 2 tape drive.
VXA is the most cost effective and scalable tape technology for servers. Exabyte VXA-2 drive has the capability to take the challenges of the high demanding storage environments. It offers 160 GB compressed capacity. VXA drives read & store the information in the form of data packets. Data packets enhance the data reliability and cost effectiveness. VXA drive records the addressable data packets along the entire tape reel. Data packet technology is far superior to other data storage technologies. Exabyte VXA tape cartridges offer exceptional compatibility and advanced features which lead to low cost storage solutions in autoloaders, libraries and tape drives.
Exabyte uses the AME (advanced metal evaporated) mechanism in the production of its VXA tape cartridges. AME mechanism boosts the recording density and robustness of VXA tape media cartridges. When compared with the MR (metal particle) tape cartridges, the VXA backup tapes deliver low ownership cost and longer working life. Smooth and robust medium of highly reliable VXA cartridge allows stable tape tracking, superior restore integrity, high speed backups, long term data protection and up to 500 read & write passes. High speed Exabyte VXA-2 tape drive delivers increased storage capacity and stable tracking, which ensure increased efficiency in high demanding environments. Shelf life of high speed VXA tapes is 30 years.
