Body detoxification is the removal of toxins from the body whether it is the foods we eat, products we use daily, or negative thoughts and energy. Primarily thought of in the past as alcohol or drug detox, today it has an all new meaning. Practically everything we eat, breathe, or use contains toxins that are harmful to the body. Your body cleanses itself of some toxins naturally using the liver, the kidneys, and the lungs. If it did not remove these toxins on a daily basis, you would die.

The liver acts like an in-line filter to change toxins into compounds that the body can expel. Toxins are then expelled through the kidneys, lungs, skin, and bowels. A detox diet is one way to remove these toxins. A natural vegetarian diet includes a lot of vitamins that the body needs to nourish various organs. Eliminating meat for a short period of time helps as meat is harder to digest than vegetables and uses up more enzymes in the process.

Using herbs along with a healthy diet also helps rid the body of harmful toxins. Herbs may be used as teas, such as dandelion, ginger, or licorice. Consult with your physician before starting on a vegetarian diet as he can give you pointers on what types of vegetables are best and what to expect if you accidentally overdo. Any type of diet can be risky if you go overboard and expect immediate results. It takes time for the body to readjust itself and for you to start feeling the benefits.

Skin cleansing is a very effective means of detoxification because our skin releases heavy metals through the pores when you sweat. Stop using chemical skin care lotions and creams. The body absorbs the toxins from these products and adds to the amount of toxins our liver has to deal with. Likewise with shampoos and conditioners. Using natural soaps and oils is best for cleaning the skin.

Juice fasting is another excellent way to rid the body of toxins. Juice is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and also contain enzymes that the body needs. Digestion is simpler with juices than foods and uses fewer enzymes that are essential to good health as they break down all foods so that the body can digest them.

There are many good ways to detoxify the body, however you should always consult with your doctor before starting any diet. Detoxifying too fast can cause headaches, nausea, and vomiting because the toxins are released into the circulation. Should this occur, you should start over and take it more slowly.
