Acne affects just about everybody at some point in their life. It's
common to have acne in adolescence but also affects many into
late adulthood. For many it can cause anguish, and sometimes
causes low self-respect, and even depression. Your mother
Likely told you to use soap and water, washing frequently. She
may have even tried other home remedies, which could worsen the
problem. What she did not know was that you could actually use an
acne lotion to control the problem.
Here's what your mother didn't know about acne lotions. An acne
lotion is an oil and water emollient to be applied to unbroken
skin. Acne lotions ordinarily contain acne medicines like
antibiotics, skin exfoliants, and antibacterials. They have the
advantage of being soothing to the skin and can be applied across a
large area easily. It is much easier if you can apply a lotion
over a large area, and it takes less time.
Here are some do's and don'ts if you have acne:
Do confer with your doctor or dermatologist straightaway. He or she
can give you a treatment before the acne gets too aggravated.
Many nonprescription drugs like benzoyl peroxide acne lotion,
salicylic acid, and triclosan are available to treat mild to
moderate acne. Benzoyl peroxide is considered to be one of the
best over-the-counter products.
Don't wash the affected area too frequently, because it depletes
skin oil. It's better to use a mild cleansing agent.
Use a supplement, like Acnezine which assists control free radicals
that cause aging wrinkling and skin damage that can contribute to
infection. It helps to keep the skin firmer and younger.
The mainstay of nonprescription products is benzoyl peroxide.
Applied as a gel or acne lotion, benzoyl peroxide acts to clear up
acne by reducing acne and removing dead cells from the skin to
prevent blackheads. It was one of the first agents determined to be
effective in treating mild acne and has been used in acne
treatment for decades. It should be continued after acne clears
up to prevent further lesions in the skin. In order to not cause
Inordinate drying of the skin follow your dermatologists'
directions.
Salicylic acid is found in several over-the-counter acne products,
including lotions, creams and pads. It may be irritating to the
skin. It is effective in treating non-inflammatory acne lesions.
Salicylic acid helps correct the abnormal shedding of skin cells
and unclog pores to resolve and prevent lesions.
After about one week of using an acne lotion you should begin to
see an improvement in your skin. In four to six weeks you should
begin to see the acne vanish. It is important complete the
medicinal treatments and continue to be patient. It is also
prudent to continue applying acne lotion after the acne has
subsided for a least a week.
Acne has been a problem since humanity became aware of it's looks.
This caused low self esteem for generation after generation.
Mothers today know a good deal more about treating acne than in
previous times. They now know it is important to consult a
dermatologists right away. They know that just washing with hard
soap and water not only doesn't cure the problem it increases
it. They know that applying a good nonprescription acne lotion
product can be beneficial. Had your mother and known this, you
may not have any acne problems now.
