With the increasing use of cordless and mobile phones, the pay phones industry has suffered a setback. Since most people carry mobile phones and even two way radios, the need for pay phones has been decreasing steadily. The concept of wireless pay phones is seen as an important lifeline that can help in reviving the industry.

The pay phones industry has come with this unique idea of putting up wireless pay phones almost everywhere, like in taxis, buses, etc. so that people can talks and communicate even when they are on the move. This is the latest attempt by the pay phones industry to score higher in their survival against th popular mobile phones.

Pay phones terminals have already started evolving and this is the second phase of their evolution. The first happened, when pay phones terminals were converted into interactive booths, where people can access the internet, send emails and receive faxes, all while making a simple telephone call. This is their way of countering the challenge posed by the popularity and widespread use of mobile phones. Since people carry mobile phones everywhere, the need for pay phones has decreased considerably.

But, statistics show that despite the popularity of mobile phones, the pay phones booth located in the corner of the quiet street has still a long way to go before being termed obsolete. This is because despite all the high and latest technological features, if the mobile phone battery gives way or instrument fails to catch the signal, then the costly mobile phone is just a piece of plastic. It is in these situations, that the rickety instrument fixed in a weather beaten booth, which works only after you put in a penny still proves to be a life saviour.

The pay phones industry is well aware of the indispensability of this concept, hence to make it more easily accessible to the consumer, the idea of wireless pay phones is being implemented with a lot of enthusiasm.
